1. 1Day 1Rome – Portovenere – Genoa, 550 km

   Departure from Rome – lunch at leisure along the way – in the afternoon, a walking tour with the tour leader through Portovenere, a glorious UNESCO World Heritage Site – in the evening, check-in at the hotel in Genoa – dinner at the hotel – after dinner, Genoa by night: a walking tour with the tour leader, travelling by public transport to Piazza De Ferrari and Piazza delle Erbe – overnight stay.

2. 2Day 2Genoa, “a jewel set between sea and mountains”

   Breakfast at the hotel – a full day given over to a guided tour of the city: the historic centre and its patrician residences, the Strade Nuove with the UNESCO-listed Palazzi dei Rolli (panoramic tour, Via Garibaldi, Piazza Caricamento, Palazzo San Giorgio, Piazza Bianchi, Piazza San Matteo, Piazza De Ferrari, Porta Soprana, the house of Christopher Columbus, Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Spinola – interior visits), the Aquarium (self-guided visit) and the Old Port, with the chance to ride the Bigo, a panoramic lift 40 metres high with sweeping views over the city – traditional lunch in a restaurant – gelato tasting – free time for shopping – dinner at the hotel – after dinner, Genoa by night: a walking tour with the tour leader in Nervi – overnight stay.

3. 3Day 3Cervo – Laigueglia – Varigotti, “the most beautiful villages”, 250 km

   Breakfast at the hotel – full-day guided excursion along the Riviera di Ponente – a visit to some of the loveliest villages in Liguria: Cervo (a beautiful medieval village and home to a singular gem, the Clavesana Castle with its Ethnographic Museum, the Church of San Giovanni Battista, a fine expression of Ligurian Baroque, and a historic centre threaded with narrow lanes), Laigueglia (a seaside village whose fortune was built by coral fishermen; parish church of San Matteo) and Varigotti (the finest natural harbour on the western Riviera, with colourful houses and flat rooftop terraces that give the landscape its singular character) – traditional lunch in a restaurant – during this excursion we cross the brand-new San Giorgio Bridge in both directions – in the evening, return to the hotel – dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure – the tour leader is at guests’ disposal – overnight stay.

4. 4Day 4Portofino – Santa Margherita Ligure – Rapallo, “the most beautiful…

   villages”, 50 km. Breakfast at the hotel – full-day guided excursion along the Riviera di Levante – visits to Rapallo, Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino – traditional lunch in a restaurant – in the evening, return to the hotel – dinner at the hotel – after dinner, Genoa by night: a walking tour with the tour leader in Boccadasse, an old fishing village – overnight stay.

5. 5Day 5Cinque Terre tour, “a natural paradise and UNESCO World Heritage Site”…

   150 km. Breakfast at the hotel – full-day guided excursion by train to the Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site – visits to Levanto, Monterosso, Manarola and Riomaggiore (with a stroll along the Via dell’Amore, if open, from Riomaggiore to Manarola) – lunch at leisure – tasting of Sciacchetrà DOC wine – in the evening, return to the hotel – dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure – the tour leader is at guests’ disposal – overnight stay.

6. 6Day 6Genoa – Sarzana – Rome, 510 km

   Breakfast at the hotel – departure for Sarzana – guided visit of the town – tasting of a local speciality, the spongata of Sarzana – lunch at leisure along the way – arrival in the evening. Please note: visits may be rearranged between days 2, 3 and 4 according to museum opening times.
